Strip away the buzzword and an AI-powered menu is doing two or three specific, testable things.
The phrase "AI-powered menu" has been stretched to cover everything from a chatbot bolted onto a PDF to a genuinely adaptive system that changes what a guest sees. As an owner deciding whether to spend money on one, you deserve a plainer answer than a sales deck gives you, and that plainer answer is shorter than most pitches make it sound.
The two things it actually means
Strip the term down and there are really two capabilities being described, and a decent product should be able to name both clearly. First, personalization: the menu shows the same dishes and categories to everyone, but the order within those categories shifts based on what a specific guest has told you or shown you they like. Second, a language layer: guests can ask a plain question, is this spicy, does this have nuts, what does this taste like, and get an answer without flagging down a server.
What it is not
It is not the menu inventing new dishes. It is not the kitchen changing recipes on the fly.
