The reason was practical rather than visionary: they let a restaurant hand a guest a menu without handing over a physical object that needed sanitising between uses.   • Time how long it takes from scan to a readable menu, anything past a couple of seconds is worth fixing
  • Check whether text is legible without zooming, on a small, older phone, not just your own newer one
  • Look for anything that requires horizontal scrolling, a common sign the menu wasn't built mobile-first
  • Ask a guest, not a staff member, to find one specific dish and time how long it takes them
